After a two-year pandemic break, the Oktoberfest in Munich is taking place again this year.

Oktoberfest host and restaurateur Michael Käfer speaks of a "run" on table reservations.

Munich

– The world-famous Oktoberfest in Munich* had to be canceled for two years due to the corona pandemic.

In autumn 2022 it can finally take place again, as Munich's mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) recently officially announced.

Despite the relief of Wiesn fans, innkeepers and showmen, Reiter let it be known that he would have liked to have decided differently himself, but that the law would not allow it.

Reiter could not and did not want to resist a violent verbal slap for Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU).

Oktoberfest 2022 in Munich: Mayor Reiter gives his OK - albeit with little conviction

While riders are looking at the approaching autumn and a possible new and violent wave of corona diseases with stomach ache, the Oktoberfest hosts are already rubbing their hands with anticipation.

Because after two years without an Oktoberfest, the Oktoberfest fans' thirst for beer is of course all the greater.

So the chances of good business for the marquee operators are better than ever, especially since the prices for beer, chicken and Co. will rise again significantly this year.

Nevertheless, the rush to the marquee tables is already huge.

"It's really more than good, we have so many reservations," said restaurateur and Oktoberfest host Michael Käfer (64).

"It's an amazing run." Käfer doesn't expect the Wiesn to be spontaneously canceled after all and firmly believes in the Oktoberfest 2022. "These days you can never say that it's 100 percent, but I would be 99 percent tell me."

Käfer runs the Käfer tent at the Wiesn, a meeting place for stars and starlets as well as managers and their business partners.

After two cancellations due to Corona, the city of Munich wants to host the world's largest folk festival again from September 17th - without Corona restrictions.

For these, as Reiter grudgingly remarked in his statement on the Oktoberfest implementation, there is currently neither legal support nor a pandemic situation that would justify a cancellation.

Should the Oktoberfest have to be canceled at short notice this year, Reiter promised not to pass the costs on to the people of Munich.
