Shanghai was in a tough corona lockdown for almost two months, and now some public transport is starting up again.
The responsible authority announced that four of the 20 subway lines and some bus lines should be running again from Sunday.
Passengers need a negative corona test and must have a “normal” body temperature.
With the number of infections falling, the authorities in Shanghai had begun to gradually lift the tough restrictions on the population.
In some parts of the city, factories and businesses have reopened and curfews have been lifted.
In other parts of the city, however, there were also tightening: the central district of Jing'an was completely sealed off again on Sunday.
The entire population of the district is to be tested for the virus in three rounds.
Until the end of the test rounds, people are not allowed to leave their homes.
"Exit permits that have been issued will be suspended," according to Jing'an's authorities.
However, the "victory" against the virus is not far away.
China had imposed rigorous restrictions from the beginning of the pandemic and was thus able to keep the number of infections relatively low by international comparison for a long time.
However, with the advent of the omicron variant, large outbursts did occur.
The center was initially Shanghai, after which the city with its 25 million inhabitants was rigorously sealed off at the beginning of April.
Beijing stays closed
The lockdown had massively affected the supply of fresh food there and caused great displeasure among the population.
According to official information, there were 600 new cases of infection in Shanghai on Sunday, 570 of them without symptoms.
In other Chinese cities, public life was further restricted.
In the capital Beijing, for example, there is an order to work from home.
