The Spanish health authorities confirmed today that the number of registered and confirmed cases of monkeypox virus in Spain has reached 40 so far, including 39 in the capital, Madrid, and one in Andalusia.
The Spanish newspaper, El Mundo, quoted the Ministry of Health as saying in a statement that the number of suspected cases under study and verification has reached 52 cases so far, including 40 cases in Madrid and 12 cases in six other local regions.
The ministry indicated that Spain is considered the most European country in terms of confirmed cases of the virus, followed by Portugal with 23 cases, in addition to recording 20 cases in the United Kingdom.
