Strike of buses and trams in Ile-de-France: traffic disrupted from this Monday, May 23

2022-05-22T06:40:57.662Z

Two out of three buses and three out of five trams will run on average this Monday at rush hour, predicts the RATP. The strike notice has expired.

Traffic looks disrupted on the surface.

From this Monday, May 23 - and until Wednesday, May 25 inclusive according to the notice - a strike by trade unions is planned only on the Parisian surface network, namely trams and buses.

According to RATP forecasts, on lines T1, T2, T3a and T3b, one in two trams will run on average during rush hour.

On the T8 line, only one in four will drive during these same times.

Traffic will, on the other hand, be “almost normal” on T5, T6 and T7, specifies the transport company.

A link with opening up to competition

On the bus side, the RATP has not yet given all the details.

But it is expected that on average two out of three buses will circulate, “with variations depending on the sector”.

Some lines will even be interrupted, but they have not yet been given.

The metro and RER networks are not affected.

As we explained at the beginning of May, this strike movement is linked to the opening to competition of the bus networks of Paris and the inner suburbs from 2025. For more than a year, the RATP has been negotiating to modify the conditions of work of its employees.

But the unions denounce an anticipated change.

Opening up to competition should lead to an increase in the weekly working hours of transport employees.

The RATP wants to anticipate this change by increasing working hours now in exchange for a salary increase.

The unions refused but the Paris transport authority announced that it would implement unilateral measures from July 1.
