FOOTBALL LANDESLIGA SV Bad Heilbrunn is allowed to go into relegation after a 4-1 victory in the final at TSV Gersthofen.

First leg on Thursday.

Gersthofen/Bad Heilbrunn – What a drama: SV Bad Heilbrunn wins 4:1 (2:1) at TSV Gersthofen, overtakes VfR Neuburg on the last day of the state league and climbs to a relegation rank.

Until this was certain, HSV had to endure agonizingly long minutes after the final whistle.

Everyone involved was aware that in order to have a chance of staying up in the league, the team from Heilbrunn had to score more points than their direct competitor, VfR Neuburg.

If he wins against SV Egg, Heilbrunn is relegated.

Redemption only long after the final whistle

Many traveling fans followed their team's game with one eye and the live ticker from Neuburg with the other.

At first everything went as pictured.

Neuburg conceded one goal after the other.

At half time it was already 0:3.

There seemed to be no more danger from the direct competitor.

And the Heilbrunner?

They appeared so cool and self-confident in Gersthofen as if they had won every game this season.

The hosts didn't have a single top-class chance to score until the break - and still took a 1-0 lead: After a foul in midfield, referee Michael Bäumel awarded a free kick, and Simon Achatz chased the ball from a good 25 meters into the Kreuzeck, unstoppable for HSV- Goalkeeper Christoph Hüttl (32nd).

Continue after a deficit - as if nothing had happened

Neuburg could still concede so many goals - if it stayed 0-1, relegation would be sealed.

But the people of Heilbrunn played on as if nothing had happened - and Felix Gellner also used their first really good chance to score (41st) - a well-placed shot from 16 meters.

The Gersthofen team assisted with goal number two: They let themselves be caught off guard by Sebastian Mertens and speculated that it was offside.

Anton Krinner was able to run towards the goal all by himself and had no trouble beating TSV goalkeeper Niklas Gordy single-handedly (44th).

Now the Heilbrunners suddenly had all the trumps in their hands.

And they didn't give it up even after the change of sides.

They only came under pressure once more when Rudolf Kine failed to hit the post with a long-range shot (49').

But then we could once again rely on returnee Max Specker.

Five minutes after coming on, he guessed what the Gersthofen defenders were planning, brushed off a cross pass, ran alone towards the TSV goal, also kept his nerve and scored the 3:1 (65th).

In the sweltering heat, the Gersthofeners no longer had the motivation to turn the game around.

In the 67th minute, Benedikt Specker played the defense dizzy and passed to Gellner, who only had to push the ball into an empty goal.

A little later, Marcel Pappritz' goal to make it 5-1 was disallowed for offside.

Another hit – and Heilbrunn would have been relegated.

The Heilbrunner had done their duty, now the trembling began.

Groups of people formed around every mobile phone on the field.

Some followed the live ticker from Neuburg, others preferred moving pictures and watched the live broadcast on the Internet.

Disaster was looming: Egg an der Günz saw a red card, had to survive almost the entire second half outnumbered, conceding 1:3 (48th) and 2:3 (83rd).

The Heilbrunn game was long overdue when things got really dramatic again.

"It's 3:3 in Neuburg!" shouted a fan. "No - it's 3:2," came the voice from another corner.

"The gate has been annulled!" yelled a third.

"Are you kidding me?" Toni Krinner shouted angrily.

“We ran like crazy for 90 minutes.

If someone says 3:3 again,

It rattles – that's not funny.” But then it became clear: Neuburg actually managed to equalize 3:3 after being down 0:3.

The confusion arose because the moving images and the live ticker text arrived on the cell phones at different times.

Just one more hit - and Heilbrunn would have been relegated.

Anxious looks, agonizingly long minutes – and then finally: the final whistle in Neuburg.

It stayed at 3:3.

The redemption.

Only one fan let out a cheer, the rest of the Heilbrunner delegation sank silently and relieved onto the lawn.

"If Neuburg had actually won the game after going 3-0 - that would have been the crowning glory of this season," commented HSV coach Walter Lang sarcastically.

"It would have been brutal if we had dismounted like that."
