Police refuse stake to hold rallies for past two years
Since the June 4th incident in 1989, citizens have come to Victoria Park to participate in the candlelight party hosted by the stake every year, but the police have issued a notice of objection to the organizer in the past two years, citing the epidemic as an excuse.
Among them, in 2020, a large number of people went to the Victoria Park to pay their respects. The police later arrested dozens of pro-democracy activists on charges of "participating in an unauthorized assembly" or "inciting others to knowingly participate in an unauthorized assembly".
Among them, former stake secretary Cai Yaochang, former Legislative Council member Liang Yaozhong and others are serving prison terms because of this case.
During the June 4th anniversary last year, the police sealed off the Victoria Park area to prevent citizens from insisting on entering to mourn.
