In Iran, it was reported today (Sunday) that the assassination of Colonel Hassan Sayed Khodai, a senior Revolutionary Guards officer who has been involved in the Syrian war against ISIS in recent years.

The Revolutionary Guards called the assassination a "criminal terrorist act by elements opposed to the revolution and linked to global arrogance."

The incident occurred around four o'clock in the afternoon, when the officer was near his home on Mahadi al-Islam Street in Tehran.

There, from close range, gunfire was fired at a motorcycle, equipped with a silencer.

The colonel died on the spot, and reports of his assassination began to flood the media in the country and around the world.

At the same time, security forces in Iran began searching for the assassination squad.

"A member of a force fighting for Iran to protect Shiites and their temples in Syria or Iraq was killed in a rare assassination attempt on Tehran," the agency said.

"Two people on a motorcycle fired at 'one of the temple defenders,'" the report said.

The term "Holy Temple defenders" refers to advisers and military personnel who, according to Iran, are fighting on its behalf to protect Shiite sites in Iraq and Syria from groups such as ISIS.

At the same time, the ISNA news agency reported that the Revolutionary Guards had exposed and arrested a network of Israeli intelligence agents.

"In the instructions of the Zionist regime's intelligence service, the network tried to steal and destroy public and personal equipment, hijack and obtain false confessions through a network of thugs," the Revolutionary Guards said.

In April, it was reported in Iran that gunmen opened fire on the city of Zahdan at a vehicle carrying a Revolutionary Guards general, killing its bodyguard.

According to the report, General Hussein Almasi survived the ambush without any injuries.

Authorities have arrested several suspects but have not yet been identified.

The Fars semi-official news agency in Iran reported that three Mossad spies were arrested at the same place where the shooting was carried out at the general.

The report, quoted by the intelligence minister, did not specify the nationality of the spies.

In November 2020, the assassination of the father of Iran's nuclear program, Muhsin Fahrizadeh, was assassinated in Tehran.

The assassination was carried out using a ton of weapons smuggled into the country in parts of the Mossad's operations.

According to intelligence sources, a group of more than 20 agents, including those of Israeli and Iranian citizenship, took part in the assassination operation that took place after eight months of surveillance.

Iranian media reported that Fahrizadeh died at a hospital in the country after armed assassins shot him while he was sitting in his car.

Shortly after the assassination, Tehran pointed the finger of blame at Israel.
