The Technical University of Munich is starting a study on the question of how the 9-euro ticket affects mobility behavior.

Participants are still being sought.

Munich - How does the 9-euro ticket affect local public transport in the Munich metropolitan region?

The study "Mobility.Life" by the city, transport companies and the Technical University (TU) of Munich is dedicated to this question.

And we are still looking for participants who anonymously take part in a survey or who use an app to transmit their daily routes.

Large study "Mobility.Life" in Munich: online survey from May to December

The online surveys take place from May to December.

It is not only about mobility behavior, but also about questions of consumption and energy use.

The survey runs on the website www.hfp.tum.de/hfp/tum-think-tank/mobilitaet-leben.

Participants will be surveyed three times by the end of the year.

In addition, 1000 interested parties will have the opportunity to have their movement behavior recorded automatically by the app by the end of September.

You can also register for this on the website.

There is compensation of at least 30 euros for full participation.

In addition, 200-euro vouchers will be raffled among the participants.

"Our goal is to use the data to record changes in mobility behavior and to draw conclusions for tomorrow's traffic," says research director Professor Klaus Bogenberger.

For example, grab the 9-euro ticket and actually get people to switch from cars to buses and trains?

"Or will people continue to drive a lot when fuel becomes cheaper again because of the temporary tax cuts?"

Mayor Katrin habenschaden (Greens): "Want to know how many will change in the long term"

The city is working flat out to implement the turnaround in traffic, says Mayor Katrin Habenschaden (Greens).

A better offer and a simple, attractive tariff system are very important for this.

The 9-euro ticket is not just a great offer.

It also turns the city into a gigantic living laboratory.

“We want to know whether such a tariff appeals more to commuters or day-trippers.

And how many are discovering public transport for themselves in the long term.”

From the point of view of the MVG, it is important to understand the passengers, says MVG boss Ingo Wortmann.

"Above all, we want to know how certain measures affect the target group of new passengers." Basically, however, the following applies: Before prices in public transport can be permanently reduced, investments must be made.

"If the offer is right and the infrastructure is not overloaded, we create incentives for new passengers just by doing that." But this requires financial aid from the federal and state governments.
