BVB confirms: Terzic as Rose's successor as head coach again

After just one season, Edin Terzic returns to the post of head coach at Borussia Dortmund.

After the separation from Marco Rose, the 2021 cup winners coach agreed to his return to the BVB coaching bench.

Dortmund - The dream of many BVB fans has come true: Edin Terzic is returning to the coaching post at Borussia Dortmund after just one year.

The 39-year-old Ur-Borusse, who made Dortmund the cup winner last year, will succeed Marco Rose, who was on leave on Friday.

This was announced by the listed vice champion of the Bundesliga on Monday.

After the somewhat surprising separation from Rose, it had already leaked out that the previous technical director should return as head coach.

Terzic is expected to sign a contract with BVB this Tuesday until June 30, 2025.

"We held several intensive talks with Edin Terzic last weekend and are convinced that this personnel decision is the right one for BVB," said the designated Dortmund sports director Sebastian Kehl.

"Edin knows our club, the environment, a large part of the team and knows what adjustments we want to make in order to be able to offer our fans successful football.

The 2022/23 season is characterized by a new sporting start.

We will drive this forward together with great joy and passion.”

Terzic had already taken over Dortmund in December 2020 as an interim solution after Lucien Favre was on leave, stabilized after a mixed start and led to the DFB Cup victory.

Even then, Terzic had the affection of the large BVB attachment.

But the bosses around managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke had already committed the then Gladbach coach Rose to the new season.

A momentous decision - for many involved.

The new BVB darling, Terzic, was kept at the club to be on the safe side and was promoted to the newly created position of technical director.

According to some observers, this undermined Rose's authority from the start.

After all, he led Dortmund to the vice-championship.

The hoped-for attack on series champions FC Bayern Munich failed thoroughly.

In the cup competitions, Dortmund also gave a very poor picture.

In the DFB Cup, the defending champions failed in the round of 16 at second division club FC St. Pauli.

In the Champions League, the end came in a quite feasible group in the preliminary round.

Most recently, doubts about the ambitious Rose grew in the management floor.

After a big season analysis on Thursday, the consistent cut came.

The choice quickly fell on Terzic, who is now responsible for restructuring the squad at Westphalia and finally bringing BVB closer to Bayern again.
