Carnival at the end of May?

That's unusual.

For the Schongau carnival society, however, the spring festival on Saturday was the first chance in a long time to finally present itself to the public again.

The idea of a celebration outside of the usual carnival season without any costumes was well received by the people of Schongau.

Schongau

– When Alexander Blasi greeted the audience at the spring festival with the first “triple powerful Lechau”, it was more than just his joy at carnival that could be heard.

With a broad grin on his face, the President of the Schongauer Faschingsgesellschaft (SFG) couldn't hide that he was grateful to finally be able to welcome spectators again after the long compulsory Corona break.

Been there for two years and never a performance

"We have girls in the Garden who have been there for two years and have never had a performance," said Blasi after the opening of the celebration.

This is particularly unfortunate, since the training always took place during the lockdowns, with the exception of a few restrictions.

"Many new dances were rehearsed that had never before been shown to the public," regretted the SFG boss.

"We want to show that we're still here," he said.

In order to put this into practice, there was now an opportunity on Mayor-Schaegger-Platz.

The entire SFG had been looking forward to this day for weeks.

But until the very end, the changeable weather caused concern.

"I looked at the weather report every few hours," says Blasi, laughing.

Ultimately, the chance of rain for Saturday was very low, the temperatures were pleasant and the sun pushed the clouds away.

So nothing stood in the way of a social get-together.

Nevertheless, the organizers still thought about it during the construction: Would enough people come to such a guard spectacle without any disguises and the usual hustle and bustle of the foolish time?

After all, the Spring Festival was completely new territory for the SFG.

The benches filled up hesitantly at first, then many visitors came

"We have planned for 200 to 500 people," Blasi was still unsure at the beginning of the festival about what to expect that day.

But he could breathe again quickly.

Although the beer benches filled up hesitantly at first, the 200 mark was cracked shortly after the traditional guard march of the Prince Guard.

With sausage salad, Obatzden, bratwurst, cake and all kinds of drinks, the people of Schongau showed that they wanted to celebrate together again.

While the adults chatted between the performances, the children could let off steam in the bouncy castle.

The highlight for young and old was of course the performances of the Garden.

In addition to the Prince's Guard, the Teenie Guard also showed what they're capable of and presented various show dances.

Whether lifting figures, jumps or complicated formations: the guards demonstrated what they had been training for the last two years to a happy clapping.

They presented their program three times, which has never been seen on a stage before.

And raise your leg: the next performance will follow on May 25th.

Also provided for the musical entertainment

Throughout the afternoon, the band "Yokio" provided entertainment before and after the performances.

"It wasn't that easy to find a band," Blasi gave an insight into the planning.

Because most of them are busy with weddings on the weekends.

Convenient that a member of the SFG board could come up with his own music group.

This accompanies the guests into the evening hours.

But the members of the SFG don't have much time to rest.

Already on Wednesday, May 25th, from 8 p.m., their spring ball will take place in the Jakob-Pfeiffer-Haus in Schongau.

Although he has to do without a royal couple, he comes up with dance and music.
