In Kochel, the digital infrastructure is being further expanded and the entire community is connected to the high-performance FTTH fiber optic network.

Kochel am See – This is reported by Mayor Thomas Holz in a press release.

FTTH means "Fiber to the home", it is a direct connection from the house connection to the worldwide network with fiber optics and enables download speeds of up to 1000 megabits per second (Mbit/s).

Bavarian funding program

There have been high-performance broadband networks with transmission rates of at least 50 Mbit/s throughout the municipality since 2018/19.

The municipality is now benefiting from the Bavarian subsidy program for the construction of gigabit-capable broadband networks in the Free State.

In the last municipal council meeting, the decision was made to enter into a long-term cooperation with the Munich-based company “Our Green Fiberglass” (UGG), writes Holz.

The expansion is “purely self-sufficient”, i.e. “without funds from the Kochel municipality”.

Preparations have started, and the citizens will receive further information on the expansion process in the coming weeks, says Holz.

The company UGG also works together with the municipality of Reichersbeuern.

According to its own statements, it is a joint venture between Allianz and Telefonica.

According to UGG, modern FTTH technology consumes 60 percent less energy than previous copper networks.
