The opening of the controversial roof crown of the Feldstrasse bunker has been postponed again.

This also affects Hamburg's new concert location and the Hard Rock Hotel St. Pauli.

Hamburg – For some time now, the cranes on the bunker in Feldstrasse, which can be seen from afar, have been part of the St. Pauli skyline.

And it will remain so for a while.

Because the controversial increase of the 38 meter high former World War II bunker by a good third will not be completed this year.

The confirmed club operator Wolf von Waldenfels to the Hamburger Abendblatt.

The hotel and concert hall are also affected, reports 24hamburg.de.

Official name:

Flak Tower IV

Address:

Feldstrasse, 20359 Hamburg

Built:

1942 to 1944 (built by around 1000 Nazi forced laborers)

Bunker in Hamburg: Reconstruction on Feldstraße - Hard Rock Hotel St. Pauli and concert hall affected

Felix Mörl, spokesman for Uebel&Gefahrlich in the St. Pauli bunker on Feldstrasse, also knows exactly what is planned.

This gave information to the Abendblatt about the status of the construction work.

Not least because of the corona pandemic in Hamburg and material supply bottlenecks, these would have been postponed.

The opening of the Hard Rock Hotel St. Pauli, which is also to move into the roof crown, is also affected by the postponement.

This has already been postponed once.

The Hard Rock Hotel St. Pauli was originally supposed to open in the summer of 2022.

An exact date is still difficult to predict today.

When the addition and the hall are finished this year, we will then need a certain amount of time for our operational and structural set-up.

After completion, von Waldenfels will also operate the Georg-Elser-Halle in the roof of the bunker - but the concert location named after Hitler's assassin Georg-Elser will not be finished in 2022 as planned.

The first concert in the new Georg-Elser-Halle should have been a performance by the legendary Hamburg school band Tocotronic two days before Christmas Eve 2022.

But this does not occur.

Rick McPhail, the band's guitarist, had already hinted at this in conversation with the author of this text at a concert of his side project Hawel/McPhail last week.

One would look for an alternative;

either postpone the edel-Optics Arena in Inselpark Wilhelmsburg or the concert to 2023.

The concert was only moved from April to the Georg-Elser-Halle in December from the edel-Optics Arena.

Wolf von Waldenfels and Tino Hanekamp shaped Hamburg's club history

As early as the mid-1980s, von Wolf von Waldenfels opened the so-called Fun Club in the back room of the Eimer pub, later followed by the hip-hop club Powerhouse and the legendary techno clubs Phonodrome and Click in the empty C&A branch at Nobistor - today the site of the expansion of the local Helios Endos Clinic.

All of this can be read in Christoph Twick's (freelance journalist, Die Zeit) book "Läden, Schuppen, Kaschemmen - Eine Hamburger Popkulturgeschichte", which, however, is only available on the secondary market.

In 2006, Wolf von Waldenfels then opened the Uebel&Gefahrlich in the said bunker together with the former operator of the Weltbühne, Tino Hanekamp, and later the Golem at the Fischmarkt Hamburg.

Hanekamp's novel about the last night of the world stage became a bestseller under the title "Sowas von da" and was later filmed for the cinema.
