Thick, black clouds of smoke over an industrial area in Bleicherode and high flames: there is a fire in a large bakery.
The fire brigade extinguishes the whole night.
According to initial estimates, a fire in a large bakery in northern Thuringia caused damage of several million euros.
The fire broke out on Sunday evening from a previously unknown cause in a production hall for baked goods in Bleicherode (Nordhausen district), the police announced on Monday.
The around 60 employees working at the time of the fire could have left the building independently.
Nobody was hurt.
The fire brigade extinguished the fire in an industrial area near Autobahn 38 after around eight hours in the early hours of the morning.
According to the police, around 220 emergency services were on site.
On Monday morning, a fire watch extinguished embers.
The factory building was said to be in danger of collapsing.
The investigation into the cause of the fire could only be started when the building was accessible, it said.
Before that, a structural engineer has to inspect the production hall, the roof construction of which has partially collapsed.
During the extinguishing work, there were also impairments in rail and road traffic, as the police cordoned off the fire site over a wide area.
The railway line to Kassel was released again early in the morning.
A road to Autobahn 38 was also temporarily closed.
The police had called on residents to close doors and windows.
The district published pictures and videos on Facebook that showed huge plumes of black smoke over the building and flames.
