How dangerous is the virus?
Monkeypox: Patients are considered contagious for three to four weeks
"We don't have to fear a new pandemic," says the virologist Gerd Sutter from the Ludwig Maximilian University in an interview.
This is partly due to the lower risk of infection – compared to Corona.
According to Clemens Wendtner, head of infectiology at the Schwabing hospital, monkeypox is transmitted via the classic smear infection, for example through direct contact with bodily fluids.
Belgium has now become the first country to introduce the monkeypox quarantine - for 21 days!
Patients are considered contagious for about three to four weeks.
The monkeypox pathogen is classified in risk group three.
"This is the second highest security level," says infectiologist Wendtner.
According to experts, severe courses are rare in healthy patients.
But, according to Wendtner, caution should be exercised in patients with a weak immune system.
