Instead of a parade: meetings in the living room with members of the proud community in Netivot
After the cancellation of the parade in the city, the residents decided to host in the living room of their home meetings with members of the proud community, who will tell the story of their personal lives and have an open discussion.
The project, called "Tolerance and Pride Month" will continue throughout this coming June.

After the cancellation of the Pride Parade in Netivot following death threats, many of the city's residents asked to have a meeting of acquaintance and a joint dialogue with members of the city's proud community in the living room of their home.
Throughout this coming June, Pride Month, members of the Proud Community will hold dozens of meetings in salons from all walks of life in the city, where they will tell the story of their personal lives and have an open discussion.
The project, called "Month of Tolerance and Pride in Netivot", will be run under the auspices of the Association for the LGBT and with the help of the Proud House in Be'er Sheva and the surrounding area. First their personal story in an open and close conversation.

"Throughout the month I tried almost never to express an opinion about the parade in the city, I watched from the sidelines and listened to the opponents and also those in favor," Netivot resident Revital Makis shared. "Violence is a red line and we must all fight for it and promote a city that is safe for everyone. I believe that through meeting and conversation it is possible to get to know, hear and be more tolerant."
Harel Lev, an activist in the proud community in Netivot, adds that "the many referrals we have received from city residents who wish to host such meetings in their homes are an exciting message for us, the local proud community."
Lev added that "this is a message that the public in Netivot wants and is interested in acquaintances and discourse, and does not let the violence of the minority prevent the human encounter, and the statement that everyone has a place in the city."

"We must not succumb to the violence we have seen in recent days," said LGBT chairman Hila Peer. "The answer is personal acquaintance and the removal of barriers. The pride in Netivot this year is the beginning of a change and recognition of the right of the community members and residents of the city who promote tolerance and acceptance. "
Netivot Municipality announced earlier this month the cancellation of the parade in the city after a bullet was sent to the mother of one of the organizers.
The incident preceded a series of threats against the parade organizers, including the shattering of that woman's windshield.
Following the incidents, the LGBT Association decided to attach security to the event's organizers in the city for fear of their personal safety.
