The Prison Service announced today (Monday) that it is examining the possibility of financing reconstruction surgery even for the terrorist Asraa Jabas from East Jerusalem who was injured in the attack she carried out, in which a gas cylinder was blown up near Ma'ale Adumim in 2015.

Her request for cosmetic nose surgery was denied twice, but she has now submitted a request with a new opinion, which indicates the possibility of functional impairment in the absence of surgery.

Jabas is serving an 11-year prison sentence after attempting to carry out an attack during which he caused a gas balloon to explode, hitting a police officer and causing burns to his face and chest.

As a result of the explosion, Jabas herself was also injured, and since then she has undergone various medical treatments funded by the prison service, including two surgeries on her palm.

Jabas requested that the IPS also fund her nose surgery, but the Exceptions Committee rejected her request, claiming that it was not a surgery designed to maintain her health and that the treatment was not included in the health basket.

As part of the response to the petition, the IPS announced that it would re-examine its request

.

"As part of this examination, she will be able to convey her reference to the opinion and then a new decision will be made in her case."

In 2015, Jabas detonated an explosive device in her car on Road 437 in the area of the a-Za'im checkpoint near Ma'ale Adumim, after a police officer ordered her to stop.

As a result, the 45-year-old man was slightly injured.

The officer noticed a suspicious vehicle and signaled the driver to stop.

According to police, she shouted "Allah Akbar" and detonated the charge she was carrying resulting in being seriously injured and hitting a policeman standing next to her.

Magen David Adom forces were called to the scene, provided first aid to the policeman and evacuated him to Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem, suffering from burns to his face.

The terrorist was evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in the city.
