Denklingen/Kaufering – The dream of two national league football clubs from the district of Landsberg is over.

VfL Denklingen missed out on a possible promotion on Saturday due to a 4-2 defeat in the top game at champions SC Oberweikertshofen, ending the season in third place in the table. Promoted VfL Kaufering retired from the district league, befitting its status, and gave BSK Olympia Neugablonz six at the end .

First things first: Congratulations to VfL Denklingen for a really strong season!

Rank 3 as a climber - that is worthy of all honor.

In addition, there is Simon “Simba” Ried, the top scorer in the league (29 goals) from VfL – that too cannot be rated highly enough.

Denklingen was more than convincing as a newcomer in the district league and was the leader of the table for most of the season.

It's just a pity that the crowning glory was missing, that coach Markus Ansorge's team didn't show the sovereignty and the preliminary round in the final phase of a great season - and on Saturday the all-important "final" at the champion and promoted team in Oberweikertshofern 2: 4 lost.

Denklingen would have made it through with a win, since runner-up SpVgg Haidhausen suffered a 2:3 home defeat against TSV Großhadern at the same time, which literally made it clear in the last second that they would stay up in the league.

Of course, the disappointment at VfL was huge.

"This defeat hurts.

I'm still emotionally battered.

It's not about me, I just feel sorry for my players, these super guys.

It's hard for me to talk about football today," Ansorge gave a little insight into his inner life on Sunday.

The day before, his team was accompanied by around 500 fans – despite the defeat, the team celebrated the “white Denklinger Wand” long after the final whistle with standing ovations and chants.

"I have never experienced anything like it.

I was in tears, like most of the players," says the coach.

Ansorge's team got off to a dream start in Oberweikertshofen, leading 1-0 after two minutes through Lukus Greif.

"Unfortunately, that made the opponent stronger," says the coach, who congratulated his colleague Günter Bayer on a "deserved victory" and promotion.

More than the second goal by Hannes Rambach was not possible for VfL.

The top scorer duo Ried/Dominik Karg (42 goals this season) couldn't put themselves in the limelight: “Apart from Michael Stahl and Tobias Ried, our line managers didn't work.

So we didn't have a chance," says the dejected VfL coach.

• Short review.

What was it that got stuck in the second half of the season?

Where was the sticking point?

Ansorge: “We certainly played beyond our means in the preliminary round.

One or the other could not deal with the pressure situation.

Suddenly the looseness and lightness of the preliminary round were no longer there.

And then, to make matters worse, the Corona issue killed us.” The points from the 0-0 win against Berg were just missing.

• What's next?

New attack towards the national league?

Ansorge is reluctant: “We will approach squad planning sensibly.

The team stays together, only Adrian Anisits has signed off.

We will strengthen the team with two or three newcomers – and then we hope that we can pick up where we left off this season,” the coach looks ahead.

But he knows: “The second year will be more difficult.

Now everyone knows us, now we are no longer the little underdog.”

Sovereign end of the season

And worry again - but now with Swabian champions and state league promoted VfL Kaufering.

His son Paul (was also an issue in Denklingen) accepted for the new season.

In the last game of a perfect season, VfL was superior in every respect. Alexander Höfer, Wolfgang Baumann (2 each), Daniel Rimmer and captain Philipp Bauer scored the goals in the “district league farewell game”.

Coach Ben Enthart: “We wanted a sporting and fair conclusion and didn't want to be accused of anything.

We succeeded.”

Great gesture: Enthart gave reserve goalkeepers Lasse Holthuis, Lennart von Jagow and Florian Mailänder time to play in the district league.

Super also: Vice-champion TV Erkheim (scorer Fabian Krogler is Sebastian Bonfert's brother-in-law) came to Kaufering after the game in Bobingen (1:2, but it was enough for 2nd place) at the invitation of VfL to complete a celebrate a successful season.

Masterly: The Kauferinger team ended the district league season with a 6-0 win over Neugablonz.
