Surfing events are among the event highlights on the North Sea island of Sylt.

The Kitesurf World Cup 2022 on Sylt has now surprisingly been cancelled.

Westerland - The kitesurfing elite should actually be guests on Sylt from August 23rd to 30th, 2022 to show their skills in the waves off the North Sea island.

But nothing will come of it.

The event with international participation was still able to take place in 2021 despite the corona pandemic.

The Kitesurf World Cup 2022 on Sylt has now surprisingly been canceled for this year – apparently there is no money, reports 24hamburg.de.

Kitesurf World Cup Sylt 2022 is cancelled: too few sponsors

Six days of sport, fun, action and partying on Germany's largest North Sea island - that's how the event was announced until a few days ago on the Sylt Tourism Service website.

Now the headline says: cancelled!

The event has taken place twice on Sylt in recent years and has attracted many guests as well as top surfers.

Also this year, many visitors would have traveled to Sylt with the 9-euro ticket to experience kitesurfing action, to stroll around and to party.

Was it the fear of the chaos days on Sylt announced online that led to the cancellation of the event?

According to the organizers on their Facebook page "Kitesurf World Cup Germany" it is said that the Land Rover GKA Kite-Surf World Cup has to be postponed to 2023.

The necessary sponsors would be missing, which made an international event possible without admission and with fair prize money for athletes.

We are infinitely sad, especially for the athletes, our fans and the visitors on site.

However, we have to accept the reluctance of potential sponsors, because unfortunately it wouldn't work without them.

It may also be the construction work on the promenade in Westerland that is making the Kitesurf World Cup 2022 on Sylt unattractive for sponsors this year.

The storm protection wall is being raised there to save the island of Sylt from a possible sinking.
