After a two-year break, the people of Isen meet again at the traditional Kreuzmarkt and enjoy being together.

Isen – Just three decades ago it was popular as a place to shop after church services. Today, the Kreuzmarkt in Isen is a shopping and culture market for looking, strolling and enjoying.

Sunday, 8 a.m.: The first fierants have already set up their stands on Bischof-Josef-Straße, the Westach fire brigade's sales booth is being hoisted by a crane in front of the stage at the town hall and the Isen fire brigade is moving in with its turntable ladder truck.

The first visitors to the flea market are on the Ludwig-Heilmaier-Strasse.

"The early bird catches the worm," says one mum, with a Playmobil ship sticking out of her bag.

Marika Hiermann from Erdinger Flüchtlingshilfe is still waiting for customers behind her stand with second-hand clothes and toys in good condition.

You can decide for yourself how much a t-shirt or doll is worth, and the donations go to help Ukraine.

Elena Geist and her fellow campaigners also support Ukraine with the proceeds.

The women in the Isen refugee aid office will soon begin to mix the batter for the crêpes and make coffee.

Markets have been allowed to be held in Isen since 1434, explains Franz Wenhardt, who walks across the market on his way to the church.

The local historian is responsible for the museum in Isen and is very familiar with the history of Isen.

However, it is not exactly certain how old the Kreuzmarkt is.

We know from 1647 that it took place in May.

But Wenhardt can explain why the Kreuzmarkt is called Kreuzmarkt.

"It comes from the cross that the pilgrims who used to come to Isen carried before them," he says.

Even when he was a child, the market was a big spectacle with a carousel and swings, he says and says goodbye.

It's 8:45 a.m., and the service will start in a few minutes.

Less than an hour later, community officer Bernhard Schweiger blesses over 100 mopeds and mopeds.

The Burgrainer boys and MSC Isen had the idea for the meeting.

Julian Algasinger, who came with his grandfather's Zündapp, is also there.

The special feature: The Super Combinette from 1970 is in its original condition.

“Step on it once and it starts,” Algasinger praises his reliable heirloom.

The young man even has his grandfather's helmet with him.

The 22,000 kilometers that the speedometer shows were, he says, exclusively due to his grandfather's regular trips to Wegmoar, an inn in Isen.

A little later, the typical two-stroke engine smell has gone, the mopeds are neatly lined up on the Gries,

It's still relatively quiet in Meindl Park.

The Nobilies Columnae Rubare and the entourage of Herzoghart have pitched their tents there and invite you on a journey through time to the Middle Ages.

Sonja and Dustin Hoffmann use the time and practice dagger fighting.

The couple, who travel around the region six to seven times a year, practice martial arts almost scientifically based on old records.

Their weapons and armor are hands-on, after all they want to convey knowledge and fun about history.

At 1 p.m. the time has finally come: Mayor Irmgard Hibler opens the first Kreuzmarkt of her term of office after it had to be canceled twice.

Then the guests enjoyed themselves with coffee and cake at the stand of the country women and the women's community, at the farmer's market, at the book flea market or in the art exhibition Fabulous Isen.

All in all: a market that does full justice to the 1275 anniversary.
