Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko announced today that the possibility of Moldova's exit from the Commonwealth of Independent States will negatively affect its economy, considering it a wrong step even though it is a sovereign option.
Sputnik news agency quoted Rudenko as saying that within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Moldova is now a member of the free trade area, and the withdrawal from such agreements will have a negative impact on its economy, pointing out that there are agreements on immigration and social security as well.
Rudenko explained that NATO's plans to supply Moldova with weapons raise many questions and said: We were not very surprised by Britain's statement on arming Moldova, but we will monitor that because the country's constitution clearly stipulates its neutral, non-bloc status, and therefore its supply of weapons from a NATO member state raises questions.
According to the constitution, Moldova has a neutral status, but since 1994 it has been cooperating with NATO within the framework of the Moldovan NATO Partnership, and a NATO information center operates in the country.
