And the Reuters news agency quoted the Portuguese health authorities as saying that “14 new confirmed cases of monkeypox were recorded today, bringing the total number of confirmed cases registered in the country to 37.
In Spain, four new confirmed cases were recorded in the capital, Madrid, bringing the total number of infections to 34, in addition to 38 other cases suspected of being infected with the virus.
In turn, the Danish Ministry of Health announced in a statement that it had recorded the first case of monkeypox, a man who had returned from a trip in Spain.
"We do not expect the infection to spread in Denmark, but we are closely monitoring the situation to prepare for a possible development of infections," Health Minister Magnus Heonecki said.
The first case of monkeypox virus infection was also recorded in Scotland, which confirmed that the infected person is receiving treatment and his contacts are traced.
To date, the World Health Organization has recorded 92 cases of monkeypox in countries where this disease is not endemic, with another 28 suspected cases spread in 12 countries located in three regions of the world.
According to WHO, based on the information available, no special measures are recommended for travel to or from these areas.
And the countries in which the World Health Organization has recorded cases of infection so far are Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Britain and the United States.
