Russia intends to use plastic materials used in paving roads as a new project for treating these materials and improving the quality of road surfaces.
The Russian RIA Novosti Agency stated that the project will be unveiled at the Forum (Strong Ideas for a New Era) to be held by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives and the Russian Roscongress Foundation.
A spokesman for the Russian (Scientific Technological Initiative) said: The specialists from the Lipetsk province have found a way to raise the quality of the road surface while solving the problem of processing used plastic materials.
Specialists suggested using a mixture of used plastics such as crushed plastics, bags, bottles and thawed snack containers in order to partially replace bitumen with plastic or create roads entirely from plastic.
The project owners explained that if the bitumen is partially replaced, the crushed plastic is mixed and melted at a temperature of about 170 degrees, after which it is added to the hot bitumen. One of the advantages of this method is to double the service life of the road surface and reduce the cost of production and environmental pollution.
