A 65-year-old female patient presented with heartache and shortness of breath last month. She was referred to Queen Mary Hospital and found to be suffering from acute myocarditis leading to heart failure.

At present, we can only rely on extracorporeal machines to maintain life, but long-term use of related devices may lead to complications such as bleeding, and it is urgent to change the heart during the golden period to prolong life.

Mr. Lu, the husband of the patient Xu Peilan, described that he felt a sudden shock after hearing the news. His wife had no long-term illness in the past, and after retirement, she lived a healthy life and often hiked mountains.

He is looking forward to a donor with blood type O and a body similar to his wife's.

Xu Peilan, 65, was suddenly diagnosed with heart failure caused by acute myocarditis in April, and is now in the prime of his life in urgent need of a heart transplant.

Only 11% of heart function is left, relying on artificial heart to maintain life

Li Anzheng, deputy consultant doctor of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department of Queen Mary Hospital, said that the patient Xu Peilan's heart function is only 11%.

He continued that during this time, Ms. Xu's physical function was very poor, and she needed to rely on an external machine "artificial biventricular assist device" to maintain her life.

He pointed out that the extracorporeal heart-lung machine cannot be used for a long time, blood clots may occur, and the sudden complications during this period may also cause him to die immediately. Therefore, it is necessary to race against time and perform the heart replacement operation at the prime time.

Xu Peilan's blood type is O+, he is 154 cm tall and weighs 42.9 kg. He is in urgent need of a donor with O blood type and a similar body type to transplant the cadaver heart.

Li Anzheng said that transplant recipients with the same blood type and body type as the patient are more suitable, ranking first on the list.

Her husband, Mr. Lu, recalled that the two had been married for 40 years.

However, on the 6th of last month, he suddenly developed chest congestion and shortness of breath. He went to a private hospital for medical treatment. After examination, he found that the electrocardiogram was abnormal. On the same day, he was referred to the emergency department of Queen Mary Hospital. It was found that he suffered from acute myocarditis and caused heart failure. Balloon counterpulsation device (IABP) and transfer to the intensive care unit of cardiothoracic surgery.

Until last Friday (20th), blood clots appeared in his extracorporeal right ventricular assist device (RVAD), and he had to undergo surgery to replace the device.

Mr. Lu hopes to have a suitable heart transplant as soon as possible.
