Slovenia's President Borut Pahor today officially appointed liberal Robert Golub as the country's new prime minister after winning elections last month.
The Associated Press reported that Slovenian lawmakers are set to vote on Golub's appointment as prime minister next Wednesday, and a separate vote will be needed later to support his government.
The president's announcement of Golub's appointment paves the way for the formation of a new government in Slovenia in the coming weeks.
Golub's Freedom Movement won an overwhelming majority of seats in the April 24 elections and defeated right-wing Prime Minister Janez Jansa and his Slovenian Democratic Party, as the Freedom Movement was set to form an alliance with other center-left groups.
In turn, Golub promised to reform and modernize state institutions in Slovenia and to promote social justice, and said that he aims to form a coalition government by mid-June.
