Syria and Serbia discuss strengthening economic cooperation

The discussions of the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatna, with the Serbian Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nemanja Starovic, in Belgrade today focused on the friendship and cooperation relations between Syria and Serbia and ways to strengthen them in various fields.

The Serbian official affirmed the depth of the historical friendship relations between his country and Syria in various fields and its readiness to strengthen those relations, expressing his admiration for the Syrian civilization and the courage of its people and their steadfastness in the face of terrorism.

Starovic noted the importance of the memorandum of understanding that was signed between the two countries last Saturday within the framework of Minister Qatna's visit to Serbia in terms of promoting trade exchange for agricultural products and scientific and technical cooperation between the two friendly countries. To strengthen the level of relations in the economic and commercial fields to raise the level of advanced political relations between them.

In turn, the Minister of Agriculture explained that the goal of his visit to Serbia is to enhance economic and technical cooperation in the agricultural field, increase trade exchange between the two countries, and attend the activities of the International Agricultural Exhibition hosted by the city of Novi Sad.

He pointed out that the visits he made to agricultural research centers and scientific centers, the signing of the bilateral agreement, the visits to the chambers of commerce and the agricultural exhibition had a great impact because of the great agricultural progress in Serbia.

The engineer also drew attention to the distinguished relations between the two friendly countries, praising the support of friendly countries to Syria during the years of the unjust terrorist war waged against it.

Engineer Qatana explained that the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the West on Syria have exacerbated the living situation of the Syrian people as a result of deprivation from obtaining sufficient production requirements to carry out agricultural projects and the impact of this on achieving food security.

The delegation accompanying the minister, consisting of Dr. Rami Al-Ali, the assistant minister of agriculture, Muhammad Kashto, the head of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Agriculture, Assem Suleiman from the Federation of Chambers of Agriculture, and the Syrian embassy, ​​participated in the discussions, the Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Ammar Awad, the Chargé d'Affairs of the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Belgrade, and Minister Counselor Amid Hamdan, and on the Serbian side Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sanad Mahmudovic and Ambassador Aleksandar Jankovic, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Serbian Foreign Ministry.
