A spokesman for the CFS said that through the Food Incident Surveillance System, the CFS was informed that the US Food and Drug Administration and the Canadian authorities had issued separate notices that some Jif peanut butter products were being recalled locally due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The affected products are manufactured at the U.S. facility in Lexington, Kentucky, and have batch numbers 1274425 to 2140425, all ending in 425.

The CFS has contacted major local importers and retailers to follow up, and received a notification from the importer, Lottery Association Limited, that the affected products mentioned above had been imported into Hong Kong.

The importers concerned have stopped selling and removed the affected products from the shelves, and have taken the initiative to recall them.

Members of the public can call its hotline 2898 3252 during office hours to inquire about product recalls.

The spokesman added that Salmonella infection can cause fever and gastrointestinal discomfort such as vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
