U.S. President Biden held a press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo, saying that he would consider lowering tariffs on China to stimulate bank stocks to do well, driving U.S. stocks higher on Monday. The Dow rose for the second consecutive trading day, once rising more than 700 points. As high as 31,968 points, it still closed up more than 600 points.
The Dow Jones index closed at 31,880 points, up 618 points or 1.98%; the S&P 500 index closed at 3,973 points, up 72 points or 1.86%; the Nasdaq index closed at 11,535 points, up 180 points or 1.59%.
JPMorgan Chase rose 6.19%, Goldman Sachs rose 3.2%, American Express rose 3.7%, Apple rose 4.01%, Meta rose 1.39%, Netflix rose 0.58%, Twitter fell 1.12%, Tesla rose 1.66%.
