The new pro-Russian authorities of the Ukrainian region of Kherson, conquered by Moscow, on Monday made Russian currency, the ruble, the official currency alongside the Ukrainian hryvnia.

The course is two rubles for one hryvnia
,” she continued, in a statement on her Telegram account.
The administration adds that the first branch of a Russian bank will open “
very soon
” in Kherson, the regional capital, and that “
all entrepreneurs wishing
to do so ” will be able to open an account there.
At the end of April, a local official said that the ruble and hryvnia could circulate during a transition period, before a complete transition to the Russian currency, a possibility which was not mentioned on Monday by the pro-Russian regional administration.
Local and Russian officials, however, have raised the possibility that the whole region will eventually become part of Russia.
