Placemark: Moschchun, near Kyiv

The ruins of Moshchun, northwest of the Ukrainian capital.

On the way from Belarus to Kyiv, Russian troops also bombed this village in February.

It's been back in Ukrainian hands for a few weeks now, and the residents are returning.

Zinaida Kostenko, Shopkeepers:

»We rebuild everything.

We will live as before.

We as a nation are not afraid of hard times.

That's why we won't give up our land.

Our grandchildren are in the army, we ourselves proudly stayed in the village.

Russia dreams of a piece of our land, but they won't get it."

Zinaida Kostenko would like to reopen her small supermarket.

But she still sits alone in the dark.

There is a lack of electricity – and customers.

Zinaida Kostenko, shopkeeper:

»The Russians wanted to get to Kiev through Moschchun.

Every farm has been destroyed, the houses have burned down.

Hardly anyone is there, many of my customers have not returned.

We will still open again - as soon as we have light again.

The boys are working on it.

They say it will be at the end of the month.

If there is light, we can work.«

Placemark: Mariupol, Ukraine

Mariupol, 800 kilometers south-east.

On Friday, the last defenders of the city in the steelworks surrendered.

Now the Russian occupiers are clearing mines.

An army spokesman said more than 100 were blown up in a controlled manner over the weekend.

The Russians laid a significant part of it themselves to cut off paths for Ukrainian soldiers.

It will be much more difficult to track down the mines of the steelworks defenders.

The Russian troops drive off the area with Räumpanzern.

Placemark: Kyiv

Meanwhile, the Polish President addressed the Ukrainian parliament in Kyiv.

Andrzej Duda, Polish President:

»There can be no negotiations or decisions over the head of Ukraine.

Nothing without you, absolutely nothing!

That is an iron principle.«

In a combative, sometimes pathetic speech, he assured Ukraine of Polish support.

Andrzej Duda, President of Poland:

»Fate, dear fellow citizens of Ukraine, will once again laugh with us.

Poland has never perished.

And as long as we live, it will remain so.

What a foreign power takes from us, we take back with the saber.

I greet you, brothers of Ukraine!

(Applause.) Thank you!

Thanks very much!"
