Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova considered the position of Moldovan President Maya Sandu regarding the Great Patriotic War a "worrying sign" that the Moldovan leadership is moving away from positive trends in relations with Russia.
Russia Today website quoted Zakharova in her response to Sandu’s statements, which addressed President Vladimir Putin’s message on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, by saying: “We do not need congratulations, we need peace,” by saying: “The position taken by the President of Moldova is a very worrying signal.” It attests to the Moldovan leadership’s continued departure from the accumulated positivity in Russian-Moldovan relations,” describing Sandu’s statements as “inappropriate and approaching a lack of tact.”
