The members of one of the two rival gangs of drug traffickers suspected of having participated in armed clashes in the Planoise district, between November 2019 and March 2020 in Besançon, will be tried in June, the prosecution said on Tuesday.

The alleged members of the second team, confused in particular thanks to the decryption of Sky ECC phones often used by the criminals, could meanwhile be tried in a separate trial in the fall of 2022, the prosecutor told AFP. the Republic of Besançon, Etienne Manteaux.

Antagonism between these two teams

The decision to judge these two bands, at the origin of a "

turf war

" which had left eleven injured and one dead, during two separate trials, was taken in particular for reasons of "

security, given the antagonism between these two teams

,” he explained.

Regarding the first gang, its nine main alleged organizers will be tried before the Besançon criminal court from June 13 to 16, said Étienne Manteaux.

The defendants, seven of whom are in pre-trial detention, are being prosecuted for "

drug trafficking

", "

criminal association

" and "

aggravated willful violence, in a meeting and with a weapon

", he said.

In addition, eight minors from the same team will be tried in juvenile court at a later date and ten "

second knives

" will then be tried during a so-called guilty plea procedure, the magistrate continued.

57 people indicted

Between November 2019 and March 2020, two rival gangs clashed for control of drug trafficking in the Republican Reconquest (QRR) district of Planoise.

This gang war had given rise to 18 episodes of exchanges of fire, leaving eleven injured, including minors, and a 23-year-old dead.

The investigation into this homicide is still ongoing.

Two brothers, who were in detention at the time, are suspected of being the main sponsors and organizers of the first team.

According to the investigations carried out jointly by the judicial police and the departmental security of Besançon, they were directing drug trafficking from their place of detention.

A total of 57 people have been indicted in this case - 27 in the first team and 30 in the second - which has greatly shaken the inhabitants of the popular district of Planoise.
