The five trustees of the "612 Humanitarian Support Fund" include Cardinal Emeritus Chen Yat-kun of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, barrister Ng Ai-yee, singer Ho Yun-sze, scholar Xu Baoqiang and former Legislative Council member Ho Sau-lan who is still in prison, together with the fund's secretary, Shi Cheng Wei, accused of failing to comply with the Societies Ordinance to register for the "612 Fund", was charged with one count of failing to apply for registration or exemption from registration within the specified time limit. The case will appear in the West Kowloon Court today (24th).

All five denied the charges. Chief Magistrate Luo Quan detained the case until September 19. The trial period is expected to be 5 days, and a pre-trial review will be held on August 9.


Accused of violating the rules of the society

The 6 defendants: Chen Rijun, Wu Aiyi, Xu Baoqiang, He Xiulan, Ho Yunshi and Shi Chengwei, were charged with operating in Hong Kong as the "612 Humanitarian Support Fund" from July 16, 2019 to October 31, 2021. ", failed to comply with the requirements of Section 5(1) of the Societies Ordinance, Chapter 151 of the Laws of Hong Kong, within the specified time limit.

Defense says it will dispute whether the fund is a society

The prosecution stated that there were 17 witnesses, 10 boxes of relevant documents and 8-hour clips in the case. The defense pointed out that the main dispute was whether the "612 Fund" was an association.

The defendants are represented by Pang Yiu-hung, SC, while the prosecution is represented by Acting Senior Assistant Prosecutor Ng Shuk-kuen and Acting Senior Prosecutor Xu Qianzi of the Department of Justice.
