(CNN Spanish) --

On the morning of this Tuesday, an attack was recorded by a group of unknown persons against workers of the CMPC pulp company in the town of Lumaco, in the Chilean region of La Araucanía.

Several employees of the forestry company who were heading to their workplace in a vehicle were ambushed by a group of unknown individuals, Gen. Manuel Cifuentes, Head of the IX Araucanía Zone, told the media.

"A bus transporting forestry workers was cunningly attacked using firearms, resulting in three people being injured, one of them with serious injuries, and at least two workers who were injured by pellets," Cifuentes explained in hours of the morning.

However, after four in the afternoon, the Minister of the Interior, Izkia Siches confirmed the death of the person who was in serious condition, a 66-year-old man.

"There is no justification for an expression of violence of this nature. We are going to get to the bottom, trying to find those responsible," she assured through her Twitter account.

For his part, the presidential delegate of the Araucanía Region, Raúl Allard, told the local media that “they are criminal gangs.” “The people affected were shot in the head.

This cannot happen in a rule of law and the government is doing whatever it takes to stop them,” he added.
