Ben Gvir attacked the Shin Bet, they acted to save his life | Israel Today

Ben Gvir would do well to send a letter of apology to the GSS and its head, Ronen Bar • While he claimed that the GSS had failed in Be'er Sheva, Hadera and Gaza, the organization worked to prevent terrorist organizations from harming it.

The intention to assassinate MK Itamar Ben Gvir naturally aroused most of the interest in capturing the East Jerusalem terrorist organization, but this affair is troubling in many other respects.

The first and foremost of which is the repeated - and some would say: growing - involvement of Arabs from East Jerusalem in terrorist activities.

Unlike Westerners in the West Bank, East Jerusalemites hold a blue ID card and enjoy all the benefits that come with it - from Social Security to full freedom of movement in Israeli territory.

This allows them to move around the country in vehicles with yellow license plates;

A welcome interest in aspects of livelihood, but a dangerous interest in aspects of terrorism.

Israel insisted, for political reasons of capital unity, to define the Palestinians living in villages in East Jerusalem as residents.

These are about 300,000 Palestinians by definition, a mostly poor and hostile public, whose proper place is in the Palestinian Authority.

Avoiding this not only burdens Israel economically and produces a dangerous demographic bias in Jerusalem, but it also has dangerous potential in nationalist aspects - as was revealed again yesterday.

Although this organization ideologically supported Hamas, it was run independently.

This is another disturbing aspect of her activities: she did not receive guidance from the Gaza Strip or anywhere else, but acted on the initiative and leadership of a well-known local activist, who had previously been involved in hostile activities.

Her intentions were similar to those that had guided other squads of the organization in the past - from kidnapping for bargaining purposes, through suicide bombings and bombings (with a sign of adapting to the spirit of the time in the form of a skimmer attack), to harming a familiar public figure.

It is likely that Ben Gvir was chosen as a target because he was a sergeant - some would say a red sheet for Hamas - in everything related to the Temple Mount and the Old City of Jerusalem.

It was strange to read yesterday on social media the words of those who claimed that his actions were the reason for the intention to eliminate him;

Hamas does not need excuses to harm Israelis, and in any case there can be no justification for intentions to kill Israelis even if they are at the edge of the political map.

But it is fitting that Ben Gvir himself should also do a restart following the current affair.

His accusations of the left and the current government for allowing his blood to be ridiculous are exactly the same reason that Hamas does not need excuses to harm Israelis, and in any case it is doubtful whether Ben Gvir himself - with his familiar history - is the right man to talk about political incitement.

But the energetic Knesset member would do especially well if he sent a letter of apology to the GSS and its head, Ronen Bar. Last month, Ben Gvir led a public campaign against Bar and the GSS;

He claimed that the GSS chief had failed on the Temple Mount, failed in Be'er Sheva, failed in Bnei Brak and Hadera, and failed in Gaza - and called on him to stop briefing and start working.

It turns out that Shabar and his men were working hard at the same time, and among other things, they saved the life of Ben Gvir himself.

They did so with the same professionalism that guided them when they recommended restricting his freedom of movement during the month of Ramadan, in order to prevent a large-scale arson in Jerusalem and beyond.

Ben Gvir then acted as the robbed Cossack, but it was time for him to grow up;

His activities too often place an unnecessary burden on the security forces and require them to invest operational inputs in the circus he produces, over much more urgent missions, chief among them counterterrorism and saving lives.
