This was a serious affront for the AfD: In response to a question from the students, the President of the State Parliament, Muhterem Aras (Greens), said she would rather go to prison for a month than have to be a lifelong member of the AfD.

Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann now backed his party friend: "My answer would not have been so different from that of Ms. Aras," said the head of government on Tuesday in Stuttgart.

Stuttgart – But he is glad that this question does not really arise.

At the on-site visit on Friday last week, Aras was asked by students at a high school in Stuttgart whether they would rather go to prison for a month or have a lifelong AfD membership.

"That's a really tough question," Aras replied.

But even if prison would certainly be tough, she would prefer it, she said.

With the sentence, the politician earned a lot of applause from the students.

AfD parliamentary group leader Bernd Gögel spoke on Monday of a derailment and abuse of office.
