This first meeting of a round of negotiations, initially scheduled for early April before being postponed due to violence in Ajaccio, will take place "

after the legislative elections due to the reserve period

", the ministry told AFP. without a specific date being set for the hour.

Status of autonomy to be specified

In a document co-signed in mid-March by Gérald Darmanin and the autonomist president of the executive council of Corsica Gilles Simeoni, it was specified that the "

perimeter

" of these meetings would cover "

all Corsican issues, without exception

", including "

the institutional evolution towards a status of autonomy which remains to be clarified

”.

While the Minister of the Interior confirmed the absence of taboos as to the subjects addressed, he nevertheless reaffirmed two intangible principles, recalled by the President of the Republic:

Corsica in the Republic and the refusal to create two categories of citizens

”, continued the text.

Gérald Darmanin, reappointed to Beauvau within the new government, had come to the island in mid-March to try to calm the situation after two weeks of demonstrations turning into riots following the fatal attack on March 2 of independence activist Yvan Colonna in Arles prison (Bouches-du-Rhône), where he was serving a life sentence for his participation in the assassination of the prefect Claude Erignac in 1998 in Ajaccio.

Application for sentence adjustment

Gérald Darmanin had also conditioned the rapprochement in a Corsican prison of Alain Ferrandi and Pierre Alessandri, other members of the "

Erignac commando

" sentenced to life imprisonment, to a return to calm on the island.

This rapprochement to the prison of Borgo (Haute-Corse) took place on April 11.

On Tuesday, the Paris Court of Appeal rejected Alain Ferrandi's request for sentence adjustment due, according to his lawyer, to the risk of public order disturbances in the event of release, arousing the dissatisfaction of elected islanders. .

"

I deplore this decision

", reacted in particular to AFP Marie-Antoinette Maupertuis, autonomist president of the Assembly of Corsica, seeing in it "

still proof that things do not seem to calm down, at least from the point from the point of view of the state

”.

Despite the door that had been opened by Gérald Darmanin, for the moment no meeting date has been set, so I am worried

”, she also regretted before the announcement of the ministry.
