A couple with 3 children bought an old house in Modiin and decided to renovate it according to family needs and personal taste. The three-story house was Dark and old-fashioned, as far as possible from the character of the family who would live in it, and it was necessary to renovate it from the ground up, expand openings of light and bring new and young life into it. This house was especially challenging and fun.

"The landlady has a fine taste and I was happy for the freedom she gave me in creating a personal home that gives room for the expression of its occupants without fear and 'align' with what is generally accepted," says Shelush about the colorful and multi-layered result obtained at the end of the process.

There is no need to be afraid to go beyond what is generally accepted.

The design story of the house starts already from the outside with colorful flooring of painted tiles in the foyer (which also returns to the balcony to which you exit the living room), a bamboo bench that precedes the door, which has been replaced with a wider door with a rustic look and a light blue color.

The changes made to the entrance are meant to give a pleasant feeling of space and bring a lot of light and color into the house from the very first moment.

Beyond the entrance threshold, in front of the door, a large closet was designed to accommodate all the objects you enter (coats, bags, keys, shoes, etc.), and also gives space for a pleasant look when you get home.

This closet has another function, and is to hide the staircase that is on the other side, explains three.

Next to it are the guest services.

"These toilets are small and were a planning challenge because of an electrical cabinet that was there and we did not want to move. The solution I proposed was to put a round corner sink and a 'barn door' that I created especially to get the desired look but not take up space from the small space inside," says Shlosh.

"We paved the guest bathroom with large tiles with a pattern of flowers and birds that is so special and spectacular that for everything else (sanitation and cladding) we decided to go for a clean white line and give it our full attention."

The next space that meets the view is the kitchen, which is open to the dining area and the living room.

For the kitchen carpentry a beautiful turquoise shade was chosen and a hanging cabinet in blue completes its look.

Most of the area of the house is covered with warm and cozy laminated parquet, but it stops at the line of cabinets and from there the kitchen is tiled with geometric pattern tiles, which blends in with the wood tone and gives a contrast to the turquoise of the kitchen cabinets.

In the wall above the stove, a new window opens that floods the kitchen with light that also glides into the living room space.

"The geometric pattern of the kitchen tiles is repeated again at the top of the adjacent stairs, thus creating eye contact that leads from space to space," explains the designer.

A wider than usual variety of color combinations, patterns and textures (Photo: Shachar Levy)

Throughout the house you can see a wider than usual variety of different flooring and cladding, many of them with interesting and unique textures and materials.

"We played with the materiality of the wood and porcelain granite tiles in different patterns, sizes and colors. Enhancing the natural light in the house is something that accompanies me in all the houses I design, so we also expanded openings for the adjacent dining area and living room," says Three.

In the dining area, the designer and the homeowners encountered a difficult problem to crack: "There is a constructive pillar that was originally round and I wanted to remove it, but in consultation with a constructor it became clear that this would not be possible. We decided to wrap it in plaster and quarter it. "Between the dining area and the living room, which will be used by the landlady for her favorite flower pots and will give a little privacy, but will leave an entrance of light for those sitting next to the table."

The colors of the living room were derived from the colorful rug.

The page wrap is really not the only opportunity for wallpapers to be used: "I used a lot of wallpaper in other spaces in the house, in the bedrooms and also in the foyer," says the designer.

"Similar to the 'trick' I did with the kitchen flooring and stair cladding, to create a connection between the spaces, so I did in choosing the wallpaper of the recurring foyer in the fabric pattern of one of the living room armchairs. (" Turquoise House "). Connecting different textures and colors requires sophistication and refinement "In a harmonious and noisy way that creates a visual mess, and these are examples of how this can be produced," she shares her professional experience.

For the living room, an inviting and soft sofa that was specially sewn was chosen, to which he staffed two armchairs in complementary shades.

The colors of the living room were largely dictated by the shades of the carpet (craftism) and the beautiful western element ("Inbal Tiles") creates a lot of visual interest and again emphasizes the light transitions and play between the shapes and textures.

The living room ceiling was chosen by three to be painted in a smoky blue color that enhances the feeling of height that exists there thanks to the sloping and high ceiling, and it is bordered by a delicate pink hue that is also repeated in the niche in the opposite wall.

The staircase next to the kitchen leads to the children's room floor which has three bedrooms, a family corner, a bathroom and a service.

The total area of the house is 160 square meters, and it has an additional level that it was decided to dedicate to creating a private space for the parents. Three designed an open study, a bedroom, a closet and a bathroom with a wide shower and two sinks. "The design concept we formulated is colorful "One that is made of many layers of textures and textures, and included meticulous carpentry (" Roni Hanger's hut ") with thought for every detail, big and small," she says

. "It's a small key in the roof, so it was important to me that it also had an open and bright space," explains the designer.

The children's rooms are designed according to the needs of each boy and girl so that they will also express their character and hobbies.

The children's bathroom has also been designed to be comfortable to use and practical for them.

The carpentry there was made of bright blue Formica - Formica is a particularly durable material and so the landlady can be quiet that the cabinets will maintain their appearance for a long time, even in the face of intensive use by children in the room.

The master bedroom initially contained two small bathrooms and closets: "The closet was suffocated with artificial lighting only. I redesigned it so that the closet is now part of the bedroom, open to it and exposed to natural light. It is a kind of corridor leading to a larger, brighter bathroom. And illuminated, "explains three of the planning changes she made to the third and final level of the house, which is the refuge of the parents.

"We chose a bed and wooden chests of drawers, and the landlady embroidered a macrame curtain for the main window."

A turquoise dresser containing many flower pots is placed in the corner of the room and gives a fresh angle to the entire space.
