Petrified fish and plants, insects and crustaceans from the depths of time… This Tuesday, in Le Havre, French customs handed over to the Brazilian authorities an archaeological treasure containing no less than 998 fossils dating from the Cretaceous.
Looted in the Araripe basin, a site classified by Unesco since 2006, these exceptional remains were seized in 2013 in a container from South America, supposed to contain quartz barrels.
On May 17, the National Archeology Museum of Saint-Germain-en-Laye received from the hands of Bercy agents a remarkable set of 22 coins, notably Gallic, dating from the end of the 2nd century. BC at the end of the Gallic Wars.
Stamped with heads wearing tiaras, warrior or animal motifs, these priceless goods had been intercepted at Roissy in a postal parcel bound for the United States.
