Bad Tölz – The IHK sees the new transfer and innovation center in the Oberland, which is to be located in Bad Tölz on the Flinthöhe, as an “innovation boost for the economy in the Oberland”.

"It is a great opportunity for our local economy, with the support of science, to advance innovative ideas and to further develop and position ourselves more broadly with a view to the future," emphasized Renate Waßmer.

With these words, the chair of the IHK regional committee in Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and vice-president of the IHK for Munich and Upper Bavaria recently opened the working session of the committee.

The focus of the meeting was the planned settlement of the transfer and innovation center in the Oberland (Tizio) of Munich University of Applied Sciences in Bad Tölz.

It is one of 25 technology transfer centers throughout Bavaria funded by the Free State. The Free State is investing almost seven million euros in the Bad Tölz location.

Thomas Stumpp, Vice President of Economics at Munich University of Applied Sciences, informed the entrepreneurs about the current status of implementation and the goals the university is pursuing with the project: Companies in the Oberland should have access to joint research, development and innovation activities with the University of Munich are made possible.

"This means that high-tech projects can also be initiated and advanced in rural companies." The management in Bad Tölz is scheduled to start work as early as the middle of this year, Stumpp continued.

At the end of 2023, the center with its laboratories in the planned new building on the technology campus in the district town should start operating.

Digitization and sustainability, especially in the fields of automation, robotics, IT simulation and tourism, are the focal points of Tizio.

Development - Tizio should strengthen position

"Economy and society must continue to develop in rural areas," emphasized Waßmer.

Standing still would be dangerous.

“The Tizio will strengthen the Oberland as a technology location.

Innovative forces here on site quickly get an experienced partner and driving force from the applied sciences," she said.

That is a real locational advantage.

Waßmer is proud of the diverse local company structure and the mix of industries.

"But we mustn't rest on our laurels." Innovations need a good breeding ground and the Tizio should help "so that the seed continues to sprout here".

First university location outside of Munich

For the Munich University of Applied Sciences, it is the first university location outside of the state capital.

According to Stumpp, the plan is to promote knowledge and technology transfer in the areas of innovative manufacturing and materials, as well as in digitization, through cooperation or contract research for local companies.

"Small and medium-sized companies in particular can benefit from development and research activities in the Tizio, because they usually cannot easily reserve resources for research and development."

In the discussion that followed, many committee members spoke positively about the location of the center in Bad Tölz.

The university has already come up with the first opportunities for cooperation, and initial discussions have taken place with some of them.
