About 20 organizations and government departments in Hong Kong sent more than 350 representatives to participate in the aircraft accident and rescue exercise at the Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (24th) in preparation for the opening of the third runway this year.
The exercise was carried out in accordance with the requirements for issuing airport licenses. HK Express was an airline participating in the exercise, and volunteer staff played the roles of passengers and the families of the affected passengers. The purpose was to familiarize the Airport Authority of Hong Kong and airport colleagues with handling accidents on the new third runway. emergency procedures and test their resilience.
The exercise simulated an A320neo arriving in Hong Kong with 30 people on board. When it landed, it suddenly encountered a strong wind and rolled over. During the correction, the engine on the right side of the passenger plane collided with the third runway, and then caught fire.

The personnel of the Airport North Fire Department immediately sounded the crash alarm, and the Airport Authority immediately activated the Airport Emergency Response Center.
Emergency service units such as the Fire Services Department and the Police Department quickly arrived at the scene to start fire fighting and rescue, provide medical care, transport the injured and other support. A total of 18 fire trucks and 16 ambulances were dispatched in the operation.
The exercise also simulates handling the dead and rescuing injured passengers and crew.
The injured were sent to two hospitals, while uninjured passengers were sent to the Passenger Reception Center, where they were received by the Airport Relatives Reception Center after going through immigration and customs procedures.

Representatives from the Airport Authority, Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Agency, Fire Services Department, HK Express and Hong Kong Police Force attended the mock joint press conference to provide updates on the accident and rescue operations.
