Several dead pigeons are found in downtown Baunatal.

The veterinary office is investigating the cause of death of the birds.

Baunatal – Several dead pigeons have been discovered by operators of gastronomic establishments in the area of ​​the Baunatal glass passage in the city center in the past few days.

The city of Baunatal is currently speaking of only three dead animals that were found by cleaning workers in the city center.

The district veterinary office is currently having a dead pigeon examined by colleagues in Gießen, as reported by hna.de.

"They sit there, squat down and fold up," says Deni De Filippo from the Cellino ice cream parlour, describing the incidents in the glass passage.

"They really struggled." The boss of the ice cream parlor in the city center has counted nine dead animals alone in the past few days, together with the operator of a neighboring restaurant.

"We therefore wanted to let the public order office know," says De Filippo.

In the meantime, one of the restaurateurs has handed over a dead pigeon to the district of Kassel.

This is confirmed by district spokesman Harald Kühlborn on request.

The animal is now being examined by colleagues in Gießen.

Basically, according to Kühlborn, the district administration is not yet aware that there is an accumulation of such cases somewhere in a district municipality.

If it is a virus that leads to the death of the animals, then there should also be more dead animals in other places, says Kühlborn.

"We know of no reason for the dead pigeons," says city spokeswoman Susanne Brautigam on request.

So far, the city only knew of three dead pigeons.

Even Deni De Filippo can hardly explain why the animals are dying.

He does not rule out that the animals may have been poisoned.

District spokesman Harald Kühlborn does not expect the result of the laboratory test until next week.

By the way: carrier pigeon fancier Karl Hans Wittig from Baunatal cannot explain the matter either: racing pigeons are all four times vaccinated in contrast to domestic pigeons, he says.
