According to the findings of the Berlin Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the corona pandemic has revealed a deep-seated skepticism about democracy and contempt for democracy in parts of society.
False reports and conspiracy stories would increase this contempt, said Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) and the head of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Michael Fischer, on Tuesday in the 2021 annual report.
Berlin - Since last year, one has been observing the area of "attempts to delegitimize and destabilize the free democratic basic order" as a new part of extremism.
Hatred and hate speech, which are mainly spread via chat channels, are increasingly leading to physical violence.
However, the influence of the right-wing extremist scene on the Corona protests remained manageable.
In the past year, she has increasingly turned to other topics, such as racist campaigns against refugees.
At the same time, there were more registered attacks on journalists than ever before, according to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
This development is also an expression of the right-wing enemy image propagated by the so-called “lying press”.
But there have also been repeated attacks on the media by left-wing extremists, and the "enemy image of the media" is also firmly anchored in Islamist ideologies.
