The building of the former vocational school on Kerschensteinerstraße in Weilheim is to be used in future by the FOS/BOS, which is suffering from a lack of space.

However, the necessary refurbishment work has become massively expensive even before it begins.

District

– The new vocational school on the Narbonner Ring has been in operation for a few months, and at the same time plans were made to continue with the old building.

What is certain is that it should be used in the future by the FOS/BOS, which is bursting at the seams.

The result of the preliminary planning was now presented to the district committee.

And it was once again up to the head of the building and property administration of the district office, Florian Steinbach, to deliver the bad news.

It will be more expensive than expected.

Originally, costs were assumed to be around six million euros.

But in the past few months, construction prices have risen massively – by around twelve percent to 6.8 million euros.

Til today.

According to Steinbach, if the trend continues, total costs of around eight million euros must be expected.

He made it clear once again that the planning does not in any way provide for a luxury renovation: "We are only talking about a minimal variant with which we can make the building usable for the next few years." Various problems arose during the preliminary investigations as part of the planning.

The building must be divided into more fire protection sections than before - each separated from one another by expensive fire protection doors.

Florian Steinbach also reported that the electrical installation could not be expanded as easily as originally thought.

It is so outdated that there is even a risk of fire.

"We don't have to fool ourselves," he said: "The building actually needs a general renovation - from the roof to the heating to the insulation, everything would have to be renewed." However, that would then cost 25 to 30 million euros: "Where to get it and not steal?"

If you build more, there is suddenly money from the Free State

Nevertheless, the administration came up with a plan to reduce the costs for the minimal variant: simply build more.

"That sounds absurd at first," said district treasurer Norbert Merk.

But the Free State makes subsidies loose when you start a general renovation.

At least 25 percent of the total costs would have to be dealt with in one section.

In precise figures: there is no subsidy from the state for the planned minimum variant, which would cost eight million euros.

But if you were to spruce up the sanitary facilities right now - "they also badly need it," said Steinbach - then you would get over 25 percent of the total costs of a general renovation and the Free State would help finance a third of the costs.

The district pays less and, like the market criers, gets new free toilets on top.

That pleased the members of the district committee.

Markus Bader (SPD/Rottenbuch) described not only the trick to get funding as “absolutely the right way”, but also the decision to strengthen the FOS/BOS.

"This enables flexible educational careers and not everyone has to switch to high school after fourth grade," he said.

FOS/BOS is to use the workshops in the new vocational school

Karl-Heinz Grehl (Greens/Weilheim) criticized the fact that the school management of the FOS/BOS rejected responsibility for the operational safety of the school building in a letter to the district with reference to the construction defects: “Quite apart from the fact that the district is responsible for is responsible for operational safety and not the school administration: If it is that bad, they should stop working and not take any risks for the students." Steinbach then assured that "there is no acute danger for the students".

Grehl also suggested that the students from the FOS/BOS could use the brand new workshops in the vocational school center on Narbonner Ring.

Then you could save the costs for the renovation of the old vocational school workshops.

That wouldn't work entirely, Steinbach replied.

But you want to talk to the two headmasters and see where synergies can be found.

"Maybe we can save the first million euros this way," said the expert confidently.

In the end, the district committee unanimously recommended that the district council plan the next steps in the renovation of the former vocational school at its July meeting.

Particular attention should be paid to meeting the funding criteria and thereby reducing the personal contribution.
