Sumar, the association that will serve as a legal instrument to launch Yolanda Díaz's political platform, is now a reality.

The registration of the brand, collected in the database of the Ministry of the Interior, speeds up the launch of a tour throughout the Spanish territory that the second vice president of the Government wants to start after the Andalusian elections on June 19.

According to the entity's statutes, to which EL PAÍS has had access, Sumar was born to "promote democratic commitment" and the "participation" of citizens in public life, "contribute to the development of critical thinking" and "favor the study and debate” on the main social, economic and political problems.

The association includes among its activities the organization of encounters, meetings, colloquiums and congresses;

The vice president, who assumed the leadership of United We Can in the Government after the departure of Pablo Iglesias in April last year, wants to build her own political project capable of widening the current group, opening up alliances with some actors who once abandoned the space (such as Íñigo Errejón, leader of Más País, or Compromís), but also to other sectors of civil society.

For this, Díaz wants to give as soon as possible —probably at the beginning of July— the starting signal for his “listening process”, a tour of the entire country to “converse” with different groups.

The objective, repeats the head of Labor, is to reduce that gap between citizenship and politics that the polls show and establish, according to sources in her environment,

The tension in Andalusia sets off alarms: is a broad front on the left possible?

To start the process, the team that works with the vice president needed to equip itself with a legal instrument that could operate transparently.

Confirmation of Sumar's registration in the National Registry of Associations, a process that usually takes a few months, clears the way to organize the tour.

The date that appears in the registration of the ministry refers to last Thursday, one day after the news about the steps taken by the vice president in this regard was known.

Díaz's collaborators also filed an application with the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office on Friday to also register Sumar's name and logo there, although at the moment the chosen image is "provisional" and work is still being done on its design, according to They need sources from the environment of the minister.

The purposes and activities of the association are included in articles 3 and 4 of the entity's statutes.

Among the purposes are "to promote democratic commitment and the participation of citizens in public life";

“promote and strengthen citizen and civil society participation to improve democratic quality and human development”;

“contribute to the development of critical thinking”;

“encourage study, research, reflection and debate on the main social, economic and political problems”;

“seek the link with social movements, citizens and other entities of civil society”;

and “contribute to the consolidation of networks for the exchange of experiences and knowledge in the field of democratic participation”.

For the fulfillment of these purposes, the following article includes different activities: "organize meetings, meetings, colloquiums, congresses and any other type of public act";

“promote spaces for debate, collaboration and cooperation”;

“promote the organization of courses, seminars, cycles of talks or conferences, training events and participatory workshops”;

“prepare and publish studies, research, diagnoses and dissemination materials”;

“promote awareness campaigns related to the purposes of the association”;

“promote and advertise their activities” and “collaborate with other associations and entities with similar purposes”.

Beyond the news broadcast in the media, until this Monday, Podemos was unaware of any details about Díaz's movements.

Through her spokesperson Pablo Fernández, the party acknowledged not having spoken to her about this matter since last week, one more example of the distance between the vice president and the formation now headed by Minister Ione Belarra.

In a very different attitude, the leader of the United Left, Alberto Garzón, did assure on Saturday that he was aware of the plans and warned Podemos that he should not set "the rhythms" in the Labor Minister's project.
