This year's hurricane season in the Atlantic will be above average, according to the forecast of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA, for its acronym in English).
The official outlook forecasts 14 to 21 named tropical storms.
Of these, it is anticipated that between 6 and 10 will strengthen to hurricanes and 3 to 6 will be major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale).
An average hurricane season has 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes.
