Thuringia's State Chancellery Minister Benjamin-Immanuel Hoff wants to run for vice-presidency of the troubled Left Party.

The left-wing European politician Martin Schirdewan, who is applying for party chairmanship, asked him to be part of his team, Hoff explained on Twitter on Tuesday.

"I am therefore happy to run for deputy chairman @dielinke and for the renewal of our party," the tweet continues.

Erfurt/Berlin – Hoff had recently spoken out in favor of downsizing the federal executive board.

Die Linke wants to re-elect its board at a federal party conference in Erfurt in June.

The former Thuringian party and faction leader of the left, Susanne Hennig-Wellsow, recently resigned after only about a year as one of two party leaders.

Thuringia is the only country in which Bodo Ramelow, the Left Party, is prime minister.

Hoff has been a member of the red-red-green state government in various offices since 2014.

Before that he was State Secretary in Berlin for about five years.

The 46-year-old, who is also an honorary professor, is considered a strategic head within the left.

After a series of electoral defeats, the party is in a crisis.

Their top politicians are at odds and represent different positions to the outside world, including on climate protection, migration, the Ukraine war and corona vaccinations.
