This tree sponsorship project has really hit Baierbrunn: 330 firs have now been planted in the forest.

Baierbrunn

- "It's mine now," says nine-year-old Emilia and carefully hangs a wooden plaque with her name on the small fir tree.

Together with her parents and many other volunteers, she followed the call from "Mittendrin in Baierbrunn", the "Isartalverein" and the "Bund Naturschutz Baierbrunn" to plant silver firs to combat climate change.

That's why fir trees are so good for the forest

The campaign was preceded by the sale of sponsorships.

330 silver firs could be mediated in this way.

"Two trees cost ten euros," reports Petra Bokowski from "Mittendrin in Baierbrunn".

Originally, she assumed that 220 trees would be planted.

"Then someone called me and ordered another 100 pieces." And now the sponsors met to plant their small fir trees in a piece of forest that belongs to the municipality of Baierbrunn.

"Firs are very climate-resistant," emphasizes forester Gerrith Hinner, responsible for the Pullach forest district in the Isar valley, who accompanies the campaign.

"They also cope well with drought and are less susceptible to storms." So ideal for enhancing a forest with a large stand of spruce.

"You have to rebuild now," Hinner continued.

"If a tree species, such as the spruce, fails,

Children pay full attention

Before the approximately 20 adults and 15 children grab their shovels on the 1320 square meter site, Hinner first shows how it's done.

After all, you shouldn't plant the small trees too close to each other.

“I demonstrated it once and everyone paid close attention,” praises the forester.

He was particularly impressed by the little ones: "Some of them stood there with their sandpit shovels, wildly determined to get involved."

Giving a feeling for nature

The Forgatsch family is also among the eager helpers: the parents Janina and Markus, the children Felix (4) and Hannah (7).

"We moved here from Munich last year," reports Markus Forgatsch and presses the earth around the tree.

"We wanted our children to grow up in the country, also to get a feeling for nature from an early age." Just like Emilia, they too will tie a little wooden label around the trunk of the young fir.

"Then we can go and see it.

Always assuming that the deer didn't eat it."
