Stefanie von Quast's pictures show creatures that are invisible in everyday life.

The exhibition runs until Sunday in the gallery on Elbestrasse.

Geretsried

– You just have to look long enough and beings emerge that weren't there before.

"My job is to make them visible to you," explained the painter and sculptor Stefanie von Quast at the opening of her exhibition in the gallery on Elbestrasse.

The vernissage was musically framed by Elsa Kodeda (vocals) and Tobias Woitun (piano) from the Geretsried Music School.

The works were created in 2022. They are mixed media on large slabs of colored slate and marble.

The artist calls her exhibition, which can be seen until May 29, “Beings of Connectedness”.

After that, the Munich native will go straight on to the next show in Krefeld.

Stefanie von Quast has over 20 appointments all over Europe on the program this year.

Vivid, harmonious images

Gallery owner Albrecht Widmann is thrilled to be able to show the artist's paintings and sculptures in his rooms.

"It's a figurehead for Geretsried." Anita Zwicknagl from the city's cultural office values Stefanie von Quast's art: "It's a pleasure to enjoy the liveliness of the pictures and the harmony of the colors in these dark times."

The focus is on people.

Stefanie von Quast has always been fascinated by body language and interpersonal relationships that “flow invisibly and get by without words”.

There are no concrete brushstrokes for this, like the branch of a tree or the window on a house.

Von Quast achieves the effect through motion blur, liveliness in expression and the harmony of the color composition.

In the earlier works - acrylic on canvas - dance and music were the themes.

The artistic process becomes visible in the new works.

Good feelings in difficult times

The surface structures and colors of colored slate and marble are predetermined.

From these, von Quast takes motifs out of the stone by accentuating, shading and fine contours with oil or wax.

Of course it is again the human, the creature or a being.

Thus a female nude floats in the waves of the sea on a light-colored marble.

A lady smokes and drinks on black slate.

A girl with a hat, surrounded by roses, approaches the viewer on red colored slate.

"Playful flowers aren't really my thing," says the artist, but this red stone set the tone.

Stefanie von Quast studied painting and graphic design in Munich in the 1980s and then sculpture in Salzburg.

She attended a bronze casting symposium in Perth, Australia in 1996 and received art awards for her many years of freelance work.

She is also known for her sculptural work using cast bronze combined with semi-precious stones.

For example, three female figures are each sitting on a pedestal and have casually taken off their pumps.

Under the title "Currently unavailable" they enjoy life.

In these difficult times, the artist wants to give joy, connection and good feelings.
