Boris Johnson does not come off the defensive: "Partygate" seems to be tightening again.

Opposition denounces "rottenness" in government - Johnson apologises.

LONDON - Photos taken on November 13, 2020 show Britain's Prime Minister Boris Johnson raising his glass amid a crowd of people.

None of those present are wearing mouth and nose protection, even though the country was in lockdown at the time.

Will the "Partygate" affair lead to Johnson's resignation?

So far, the prime minister has ruled that out.

But the pressure could increase.

An internal investigative report blames the UK government for the "Partygate" affair.

"Many of these events should not have been allowed," said Senior Official Sue Gray's report released on Wednesday (05/25/2022).

The top management must take "responsibility for this culture".

British opposition leader Keir Starmer called on MPs from the ruling Conservative party to impeach Johnson.

The Tories must now take responsibility, said the leader of the Labor Party.

"The report reveals the rot that has spread under this Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street," Starmer said.

You can't make laws and break them at the same time.

It was high time for Johnson to pack his things.

According to the BBC, Johnson is said to have stayed in a small room with more than 30 people without the required minimum distance and without protective measures against the corona virus – such as wearing a mask – and consumed alcohol together.

Due to the corona lockdown, however, such meetings were prohibited in the United Kingdom at the time.

Several participants in Partygate have been fined by London police, but the Prime Minister has so far escaped punishment.

According to Johnson, Johnson only received a penalty notice for another celebration.

The police had also investigated the matter and imposed a total of 126 fines on 83 people involved for eight dates between May 2020 and April 2021, including Prime Minister Johnson and Finance Minister Rishi Sunak.

Shortly before Gray's report was published, new allegations were made public.

Eyewitnesses say they saw lockdown parties at Downing Street in London every Friday.

According to the BBC, empty bottles and leftovers were said to have been lying around the following morning.

Many of these events should not have been allowed.

Johnson has so far ruled out resigning over the "Partygate" affair

Johnson himself said in Parliament on Wednesday: "I accept full responsibility for everything that has taken place under my supervision".

He also apologized again.

Cabinet member George Eustice showed understanding for the anger in the population.

However, he assured that the Prime Minister had not lied to Parliament.

The opposition is demanding Johnson's resignation.

Members of his own conservative party are also calling for the prime minister's departure.

If at least 54 Conservative MPs withdraw their confidence in Johnson, there will be a vote of no confidence within the group.

I take full responsibility for everything that took place under my supervision.

The British Prime Minister also received support from Tory MP Charles Walker.

Walker told the BBC that this was not a key moment for the prime minister and that the worst was behind Johnson.
