The Syrian Association of Family Medicine and the Syrian Association of Public Health and Community Medicine, in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund, held a celebration at Umayya Hotel this evening on the occasion of the International Day of the Family Physician and World Health Day.
The event included lectures that dealt with the emergence of a specialist in public health and family medicine, the importance and role of the specialty of public health in society and an overview of the vocabulary of the specialty of family medicine and its role in promoting health, in addition to shedding light on the job description of public health doctors and an overview of the vocabulary of the public health curriculum and the role of the Syrian Family Medicine and Public Health Associations Syrian.
In his speech, Assistant Representative of the United Nations Population Fund Omar Ballan explained that the Fund focuses primarily on the health sector to ensure the provision of high-quality reproductive health services and work to increase high-quality services in coordination with all concerned authorities.
In turn, the head of the Syrian Doctors Syndicate, Dr. Ghassan Fandy, stressed the importance of the specialist in family medicine and public health, as they are the basis for linking the health of the individual and the family to the health of society as a whole, pointing to the importance of legal frameworks in developing work and achieving goals.
The head of the Syrian Association for Family Medicine, Dr. Samar Al-Moadhen, indicated that family physicians are the first line of communication in any health system, noting that their number reaches 200 physicians, and that the association is working to improve their practical reality and train them through continuing medical education.
While the head of the Public Health and Community Medicine Association, Dr. Kanaz Al-Sheikh, pointed out that the association is working to open a new curriculum and specialization to support health programs, reduce the disease and economic burden and advance society, explaining that the number of health doctors in Syria reaches 500.
In turn, the President of the Family Planning Association, Dr. Hazar Al-Miqdad, explained the importance of highlighting these specializations due to the small number of specialists in them because they are trained to work in various specializations, noting that the Association is working to enhance their role through their work within the clinics affiliated with the Association, which contributes to encouraging medical students to enter this specialty.
It is noteworthy that the World Health Day is celebrated on the 7th of April of each year, while the World Day of the Family Doctor is celebrated on the 19th of May.
